You might recall that I recently used PikiWiki in Purdue’s ENTR200 class to demonstrate how to do an industry and competitive analysis using Crocs as an example. The PikiWiki page used in class is here. www.pikiwiki.com was also used as a 5-minute “standup and discuss” web site which was very well received by my ENTR200 classes. Recently I received the email below from one of the PikiWiki principals - seems over sixty guests have viewed the mashup I did for our class.
“we enjoyed it. If any of your entrepreneurial students over there would like to discuss how to make something like this more tuned and fun for college students, let me know!
btw, I was accepted at Purdue, but chose UIUC… mainly for the better basketball facilities… even though I suspected Purdue had the better academic reputation! “

If any readers of this blog, ENTR200 students or those interested in development of a Web 2.0 product like PikiWiki, would like to followup, please contact Tony directly per the above. The door has been opened and cell phone calls are cheap (and so is Skype
) Maybe we should call Tony from class and talk to him? He is looking for input! Hank

Ah…Hank, I see you’re going for the world record for the number of blog post in one day. This Web 2.0 entrepreneurial environment is so….open. Every time I see it I’m surprised. Boy is it a good time to be alive.
I think it’s cool that there is a website that allows you to make websites more easily. I know that making professional looking websites is not an easy task and if you want the website to be able to do anything cool, there is A LOT of coding that can be required to do so. If people can write websites and programs like this that allow the more common person to be able to easily design a cool website then we are making a lot of progress and definitely opening doors for lots of people to be able to do things they didn’t think were possible
a group discussion through skype durring class would be a good idea, but only if we all check it out first. I haven’t looked at it much and i don’t know who else has but we don’t want to waste his time.
hi Hank and ENTR200 students,
Thanks for writing about and using PikiWiki.com. UIUC was no Risky Business destination, and turned out to be a fine academic experience - just to get that on record
And it was in-state tuition too!
If you’d like to contact me, better than my cellphone is my skype ID, ‘tzucc1′.
Have fun.

I think that Pikiwiki is a pretty cool website. While group 1 was talking to Tony on the phone I kind of messed around with making a page and I was amazed by how easy it was. If only Myspace had that kind of drag and drop feature so you didn’t have to mess with htmls that are way over my head. Thanks Tony for talking to our class, it was cool to actually hear from someone who has made this a reality.
I too like Pikiwiki.. it makes creating something really feel like you’re actually creating something that has something with well… creativity. Hank.. your blogs seem to attract a lot of attention. I’m pleasantly surprised.
hi there… quick update from the PikiWiki team… we’ve been hacking away on a Facebook app version of PikiWiki… it’s ready at:
http://www.facebook.com/apps/application.php?id=6470317146
New features: add YouTube videos, mash up pics, websites, widgets from anywhere on the web or your PC onto a Facebook page you share with friends or show off your work in World Gallery.
let me know what you think about it.
