A couple of weeks ago, we discussed a book named Marvelous Mercer by a 12 year old girl named Shea Megale, who has spinal muscular atrophy. Mercer is her Canine Companion for Independence (CCI) assist dog and she writes stories about Mercer - doing the things she wishes she could do, and beyond. The original blog is here:
One of my Entrepreneurship Learning Community students suggested it would be great if Shea and Mercer appeared on Oprah’s show. Without a doubt, PR and viral marketing are concepts that all entrepreneurs should be familiar with and use appropriately. However, marketing tools are most generally only discussed, and examples cited in college classrooms; case studies are dissected from a distance. There is no “hands-on.” Not here! 
On 10/23/07 a team signup sheet was passed around the classroom, and 12 students signed up for this challenge: Get Shea and Mercer invited to the Oprah show before the end of the semester, which for Purdue is December 8, 2007. If anyone viewing this blog has any insights that would help in this student-lead effort, please post comments. Hello World! We could use some help here! I’ll keep you posted. Hank
i was just wondering how far in advance does Oprah book their guests.
on Oprah’s website there is a place where you can click “be on the show”…in order to fill out a form your subject has to be one of the subjects for the upcoming show…i can’t explain it very well but here is the site

Filling out those forms are a very good idea, but I guess we do need more things done to draw Oprah’s attention on this topic.
here are some suggestions
Write a letter to Oprah and let know about Shea and her dog. Give Oprah suggestion to talk about people who use animals to do everyday chores or items. Write Oprah about Shea and her idea of a book about her dog.
I recomend that we watch the Oprah book club for any contact information. I have never watched Oprah, but any show that thrives off of ideas or videos sent to it (ie. real TV, Riplies believe it or not, Jerry Springer) display’s contact information somewhere. Also the should have the email of a public relations person.
