At Demo 2008, the presentation of the Pulse Smartpen from Livescribe won one of the coveted DemoGod awards. Their blurb on the Demo 2008 page [here] states:
Livescribe’s Pulse Smartpen is a computer in a pen that records and links audio to what users write on paper. Users can tap on their notes to replay recorded audio. Notes and drawings with audio can be transferred to a PC for backup, search and replay. Users can share their notes online or email them as interactive movies. Software developer tools make it easy to create applications and content for the mobile computing platform.
I am fortunate to be part of their early release program [to ship in 4-6 weeks] and have one on order. Ask me about it. Hank

This is a really neat idea. I know that I can relate to being on the phone or in a discussion and losing an important thought. With this pen, everyone has the ability to record and playback audio from a pervious setting. I also like that you can touch on the spot that you’ve written, and the pen will then begin talking from that point. The one drawback to this pen would be the necessity for the special notebook when recording, but otherwise very cool.
This is a really cool idea! I would actually want one of these!
wow! This is very cool. The translating thing is really cool to!!
Unfreakin’ believable! I know of something similar for kids, they write on a special pad, for instance, a math equation, then they can get help with solving it. But this is something so much better!!! Think of the target market you could get: businessmen and women in meetings, us in classrooms…How do I get one!? Now!
Wow. This is one of the few things I’ve seen and immediately thought, “I want this.” Excellent job selling the product, and thinking of different uses than simply the original WITHOUT making it too confusing. Definitely buying one.
In fourth grade I had this idea for an invention convention at my school. I didn’t win. Now I know I should have!
I’ve been waiting for something like this for a long time. Hopefully it works well.
this is an ok idea. I don’t think that it will do well. Laptops have the script feature to write on the screen as well as just basic pen and paper. Who wants to carry another gadget around just to record an idea that they don’t know is coming. I am sure this will be one of Hanks failure cases pretty soon.
Wow. This is simply awesome. I tried finding any competitors this product has but couldn’t find any. I think this is the future. Tablet PCs do have this feature but they’re bulky and you need to carry them everywhere. This is pretty cool. The pen/computer looks to be a little bigger than the regular pen but I think in future these thing will get smaller with more features. I definitely would want to buy this asap. (Well…when I have money to spend that is!!
)
This would distract me for hours!!
This is, as Deepak put it, the future. Yes, Paul, we are already carrying around our laptops, iPhones, and other gadgets, but something as small as a pen?! This is really innovative - I’m curious as to how well the pen and technology actually work when put to the test. Hopefully we will get a demo before the end of the semester!
I would like to buy one of these. There are so many times I look at my notes from class, and realize I have no idea what I was writing about. By taking in a bit of audio with the notes, that would help me out so much, not to even mention I could have all my notes on my computer too.
this is a really neat idea, i like that you can just write a word in english and translate it into different languages with just a touch of a button and the tap of the pen. as mentioned above and in the video you would need a special notebook to use it, but like he said in the video it cost the same as a regular 1 sub. notebook so i dont see a huge problem there. its a really sweet idea and i think it could take off, and its actually not a bad price for something with all the features is has and all the sharing capabilities.
