This is a really cool idea. It's amazing to see that even laptops can make a difference in our environment and in children's lives.

I think this computer would be a great product for someone that just needs something to check their email and read blogs. With cloud-computing, they can use many of the free apps, and not have to worry if their comp will run it. I was not aware at how green this XO was and think many of its hardware features are amazing.

It is very interesting to watch/read about things that are becoming more environment friendly. I'm really amazed at the things they have been able to alter to 'green', and things like these computers are just awesome!

My group in ENTR200 did our five minute ad hoc on this company. We had initially said that the company and what it is doing with these laptops is amazing, but now I think it is so much more than that. Not only is the one laptop per child campaign having an unbelievable impact on the children receiving the laptops, it is also green. This is outstanding, especially when compared to a normal laptop and/ or PC. To benzmacx: you may be forgetting the simple fact that in America we have access to electricity and such "luxuries" whereas these children don't. The crank is simply for a rainy day or at night when the solar power for the battery is running low. This laptop definitely gets my number one vote for most innovative of the year thus far!

I agree with Rob on the car analogy. I'm not sure what benefit we can give these kids unless there is educational software standard on the Linux system, but this will go far.

Amazing! I would love to see how they are utilizing these computers in the classrooms and how much it is benefiting the children.

This is such a great idea. I, along with everyone above, had no idea that it was so efficient. The amount of power usage compared to a laptop along with the environmental impact it has is incredible. If everyone got on board with these than it would make way for other devices to "go green" as well. Just think of the drastic changes that would go on if the majority of the world were to go green. There is a lot of innovative ideas to be discovered in this particular area.

Also, it's really great that the XO not only provides the less fortunate with computers but is able to be utilized as a source of electricity. The XO is able to solve multiple problems instead of just one.

This seems a lot like a car analogy to me. The XO is the fuel sipping small foreign car and our computers are the V8s of the world. Sure the fuel saver is more efficient but the big old V8 is just more fun to drive.
