This blog is a container for widgets submitted for up to 50 points extra credit in Purdue’s Maymester Intro to Entrepreneurship & Innovation class, ENTR200K. The entries are in the order received, and consist of the Team number, followed by a direct link to Sprout for the given submission, and an embed of the code. In today’s class, teams will have up to 5 minutes to present their widgets to the class. Hank

All i have to say is:
BOW WOW WOW, YIPPIE YO, YIPPIE YAY!!! BOW WOW YIPPIE YO, YIPPIE YAY
Well, I kind of enjoyed making a widget. Unfortunately I’m not a Mac person and will never use them.
Sorry, I made my point vague. What I mean is that I really don’t have a use for widgets. I would say at least 80% of PC users do not even know what widgets are. I enjoyed using sprout builder and believe it is a very good service than will be very successful. It was amazingly easy to use and unfriendly! It’s hard to find amazing websites like it to use, but unfortunately, as a PC, anti-mac, Window’s Vista user I want to create Gadgets for my side tool bar.
Just to note, I hate mac products because of how limiting they are when it comes to user created content. They have always been far to restrictive and their success is merely a fad in my opinion!
Great job everyone. I really enjoyed this project.
PC users may not know what they are, but 99% of them use widgets (a.k.a Gadgets if you’re Microsoft or Google). For example, YouTube videos are widgets. If you’ve ever watched a YouTube video or posted one to your MySpace page, you’ve used a widget. In that case, it’s a web based widget/gadget.
However, you may be more used to the term “desktop widgets”, which as you mentioned is commonly associated with Mac and it’s dashboard. Sprout Builder is typically a web based widget making system, but you can get them on your desktop… Mac (dashboard) and PC (vista gadget bar)
For both OS X (mac) and Vista (PC) try:
Amnesty Generator

For OS X (10.5 leopard) you can also natively use ‘web clips’:

I really enjoyed viewing all of the Sprouts and think that it is a truly user friendly. Definitely will be using it this semester!
I really liked the application of this process. I will probably go back to Sproutbuilder and redesign widgets, but on a more simple interface - like an mp3 player, or a news feed. With ours, we tried to incorporate everything in it to show our capabilities with the Sprout, which isn’t completely practical.
Another point was I had troubles getting the videos I wanted. I loaded two videos: one from the onion and the other from mtv. With both videos, I tried the original sources, but for some reason came to an error (possibly because of multiple videos on the page were selectable. With both, I had to find a 3rd party to lauch off of (in the example of the onion: youtube.) If I could try to correct anything about the program, it would be that.
I thought sproutbuilder.com was an amazingly user-friendly site. It made creating a widget extremely easy and I have absolutely no complaints with it. In fact I will recommend it to people looking to build one.
My point is that there is this huge idea that widgets are only for Mac users. That isn’t the case (I have always fully understood that). But on the other hand I don’t find them that useful. The only Vista gadgets I use are ones that give me system performance data.
It’s really a matter of opinion when it comes to the value of widgets.
I found sprout builder fairly easy and enjoyable. Congrats to the winning 2 teams
I think the sproutbuilder project was quite fun and entertaining, and for a person who lacks tech savvy such as myself… its encouraging to know that companies are making their software more user-friendly!
