A Google For Pirates

googlepirate SiliconValley.com reports the following:

“As we’ve written before, one of our goals is to enable everyone using Google to find the information they want easily, no matter what language they speak. It recently came to our attention that Google was not accessible to a large, influential, and notoriously quick-tempered community: Pirates. As of today we are proud and rather relieved to announce that Google Search is available in Pirate.” — Google joins in the annual Talk Like A Pirate Day revelry .

Now that’s listening to your customers! Hank

This is quite interesting. I think it is a good idea to have Google available in different languages, but I don’t think there are many pirates that are still out there…

  2. 2 Rick Schuman

Google also has Pig-Latin and Elmer Fudd. I usually get a kick out of those

  3. 3 ramiz hatimi

By making Google available in diffrent languages, Google can increase the number of viewers around the world, even pirates.

  4. 4 Yuhi Yanagisawa

    This is a funny idea.
Although I don’t think this helps pirates understand, more people would access the website to see this change.

I think even those people that are eccentric, insane in the membrane, or nerdy beyond salvation will get a kick out of this.

I do enjoy renaissance fairs and cosplaying as pirates. By doing this, Google is reinforcing festivities.

I think this is fun, and it’s only for a day. Google always has creative tweaks for their homepage depending ont he day/time of the year, so why not join in and celebrate Talk Like a Pirate day?

  7. 7 John Heritage

Heh, I always get a few kicks out of things like these. Google is just trying to create some publicity for itself and guess what? It worked, we’re talking about them aren’t we?

google is trying to get involved in many peoples life in a very intelligent way. by doing this google can reach out to a lot of interest groups and to appease them. this way they will be more loyal to google. Yahoo on the other hand does not really try to digg into their consumer base.

  9. 9 Brian Lee

This is pretty funny haha got a good laugh out of it. Google is always coming up with new interesting things to stay ahead of their competition.

  10. 10 Allison Erskine

I think its cool to have Google available in different languages. It would probably increase the already huge amount of users Google has. However, when i searched on Google Pirate, it didn’t give me pirate-like answers.

There is a large untouched market for pirates in the online search advertising business. I think there are a fair few pirates off the coast of northern africa. But the US Navy has almost eradicated all the pirates in US waters, so sadly that will hurt some market for google.

  12. 12 David Speicher

google never stops coming up with new ideas!

  13. 13 mtlehman

Definitely an appealing idea. I think its activities like these that keep people coming back to use the Google site. It’s a very innovative idea that people love to take part in. So what’s next Google?

  14. 14 cvalent

Wow, so it’s google for real life pirate? That’s an uhmm… interesting idea. I wonder if pirates still exist (maybe yes) and if they still do, will their numbers be sufficient to be a subject market for the product.

    AWESOME!!

    Facebook’s got it too.

    It’s great.

    Matey.

I think it is a good idea to have Google available in different languages, however, whenever I searched for things on Google-pirate, I didn’t get any different responses than normal. The only thing that seems different about this web page is the names of web, images, etc. across the top of the main page. The search seemed to give the same results.

    I love google.

  19. 19 Derek Blanchard

Google is amazing at coming up with various ways to get people to visit the site. I love Google.

  20. 20 Michelle Tuccori

I think that this is great. This allows for much greater opportunities for all different languages. I’m just surprised it has taken this long to come around.

  21. 21 Grant Gertz

Its nice to see they keep a sense of humor

  22. 22 Matt Sunday

I love it! This will make google so much more accessible. And the fact that they have a sense of humor is always a plus.

  23. 23 Luke Kaiser

Google is truly the best I love how they make google diverse in different languages. How many sites can say they have pirate as a language selection. GO GOOGLE!

  24. 24 Art Leontiev

I’m surprised that this is something new. I would have believed that considering Google’s imense popularity that this had been done already.

  25. 25 Scott Wilson

    Google is awesome.
All of the projects they have coming up such as supplying africa with wireless internet and setting up various government islands in international waters are all new and creative and even helpful.
With so much money they can do whatever they want and they choose to continuously create something new and make the headlines for it too.

I thought this post was going to be about pirate bay.. this is still interesting I guess.

    My favorite is 1337:

I don’t like this at all. If pirates want to use google they better learn english.

  28. 28 Steven Gazanfari

I think it was a creative idea for google to customize their home page to feature whatever celebration of the day it is. What is a pirates favorite word?………..Arrrr………

  29. 29 Will Peterson

as K. Tsai said, facebook went all out for this one. You can change your language to English (pirate) and the whole facebook website is in pirate talk.

  30. 30 Stephen Xu

Hmm. It seems that I will switch my homepage from entr200.com to Google Pirate - Finally a site that has my native language!

  31. 31 Chris Jones

This just show’s Google’s ability to make even a search engine interesting and fun–just helps prove they’re a great company with a lot of talent. Features like this make me more open to Google’s other products.

  32. 32 Sam Jager

The amount of Pirates using Google are probably very small. I personally dont think they need Pirate as a language selection on Google.

  33. 33 mallory govert

pirates are cool and deserve google access too!

  34. 34 Naomi Bee Ai Lee

This reminds me of the day some pirates wanted to promote their religion about some Spegetti Monster beside SC building. The pirates may be decreasing in numbers, but that does not mean there is none. (or wanna-be pirates). It’s great that Google is reaching out to many diverse customers and catering their needs. At the same time, is it necessary to change the whole home page and search results just to cater to a small demography? Unless it’s a hobby for a Googler, I guess it’s a fun and interesting passion to pursuit.

  35. 35 Nicholas Daquila

I think this is quite interesting but somewhat random because of its timing. If it was going to come out it should have came out with the Pirates of the Caribbean movies or on talk like a pirate day. Otherwise, it is useless in my opinion.

  36. 36 Emily Seymour

I think this is funny and I’m sure the people at google enjoy coming up with new “languages” for google. It’s fun and very in spirit with talk like a pirate day!

  37. 37 Sunxiaochen

good idea, but maybe too late to compete with Asian search engines such as Baidu.com used by almost everyone in China. But good startup to increase viewing and accessibility. Pirate language is very original and probably will attract attention due to human curiosity.

  38. 38 Danielle Fordham

This is funny!! I havnt tried it yet. I use google for everything and im on the search engine just about everyday. So eventually i’ll get to it.

  39. 39 Savannah Englert

I think this is a great step for google! Pirates are pretty popular and I think that people will spark an interest in something like this! Google always seems to be one step ahead of everyone else.

  40. 40 Kyle Conley

That’s cool that google is offered in many different languages. Google coming out with its chrome application stepped its game up even that much more. It’s offering many facets and sides to Google.
