When Water Is Not Just Water

bitchAccording to wikipedia,Mattoni is mineral water from Karlovy Vary, the Czech Republic.

The history of the Mattoni brand began in 1864 when Heinrich Mattoni (1830-1910) took over the mineral water production at the small spa town of Kyselka near Karlovy Vary in West Bohemia. Mattoni expanded the operations by building a modern bottling plant and establishing a distribution infrastructure to supply its product to spa guests in Kyselka and throughout Bohemia. In the 1880s, the Mattoni brand ranked among the best known in Europe. In 1910, the year of Mattoni’s death, 10 million bottles were exported to other countries.

At present, the Mattoni brand is owned by Carlsbad Mineral Water (Czech: Karlovarské Minerální Vody), the largest producer of mineral and spring water in the Czech Republic. The Mattoni water comes in natural and flavored modifications.” Their web site is here:

So how do you differentiate something as plain as bottled water, especially in international markets? Try advertising, and not just any ole advertising, but advertising with ump. The video below is an example. But wait, buy now and there’s even more! Seems like they like to play little games also, which is caught in a screen capture of the video at left. Missed it didn’t you - guys were otherwise engaged. Life is indeed interesting. Hank

Very interesting to see how you can make something like water into a premium product. I still say water is water is water, drink it, and dont pay more than fair value for it.

  2. 2 Rick Schuman

Water is usually a premium product on the market. It doesn’t seem like it since it’s always readily available but so many people buy thousands of bottles of water each year. This includes mineral water. So how do you differentiate yourself. Like Hank said, advertise.

  3. 3 Scott Wilson

    wow
lol what is even the point of adding that
maybe because you will unconsciously remember something being very weird and abnormal about the ad? idk
    cool ad nonetheless

  4. 4 Anna Pera323

The ad is really cool, it kept making you wonder what was going to happen once she got to the dinner. I didn’t know that such extreme water companies existed. Don’t get me wrong, I do enjoy bottled water but the history behind this company is a little ridiculous. It’s just water, right? Sidenote: Someone once told me that Michael Jackson will only bathe in Evian water…maybe he should try some Mattoni.

Marketing water is a very funny thought. Sometimes people would just buy certain brands of water because they are MORE expensive than other brands. Meaning people do sometimes may not know why a certain brand of water is better therefore, is judging the quality of the water by its price.

Watching this commerical was very interesting at first you would not think they are advertising water at all until at the end when it says it is advertising water. To me they have all the advertisment musts in place to market their water sucessfully. They have a fancy setting with a nice looking girl and a fancy resturant making their product look very prestigious. This commercial adds up to a nice piece of advertisment with a little twist to it.

Although some people say water is just water, I think there actually is a small difference in taste between them. While it’s not necessarily worth paying large amounts more for, it still is nice to have or experience.

  8. 8 kyshah

This is a nice ad!! I dont judge the quality of the water with the price…! So…however good this ad is I might buy their water just once for the fun of it (if its expensive)…but if its not expensive and they hav an ad lik this one I would buy that water!

  9. 9 Chris Jones

This company is doing what many companies with worthless products do: convince the mouth-breathers that their product isn’t worthless. Why would anybody pay a bunch of money to buy water? Because it costs a lot…

  10. 10 Julia Johns

It is crazy to me how people pay for bottled water. I have to admit, I am one of those people who buys bottled water, but it is silly. All we need to do is use a container from home, turn on our sink and fill it up. We already have to pay a water bill, so why not do that instead.

  11. 11 Josh Ringler

Somehow the bottled water companies have already duped us into paying a ridiculous amount for a very cheap product. Good for Mattoni water for making such a swell ad. Before we go off and criticize them for charging so much for water, maybe we should take a look at ourselves for buying it.

  12. 12 Hyunjoon Park

I actually really liked this commercial. It definitely drew my attention. I love the creativity of the water dress that the girl was wearing.

  13. 13 Corbin Mader

That would definitely make me want to go out and buy a bottle of water. I don’t understand the word being put in the ad at all but the ad itself if a great idea. Sex sells and everybody knows it.

  14. 14 ramiz hatimi

That looks like some mighty fine water if you ask me.

  15. 15 Stephen Xu

May I have a double cheesburger, a large fries, and three waters, please?
I’m going to remember this ad for a long time to come!
Why is “bitch” written on that board in the first pic?

  16. 16 Lauren Murphy

The ad is classy. Not only is it selling a product, it’s selling a lifestyle.

  17. 17 Jon Perl

From now on I buy their water. Period.

  18. 18 John Heritage

Wow I went back and found the place where it says bitch after I read Stephen’s comment kinda weird. either way interesting ad and it had my attention the whole time.

  19. 19 Andrea Woolum

This is definitely a new spin on water advertisements which usually incorporate sports or refreshment and not usually five star restaurants. However, it was very well done and creative!

  20. 20 Matt Sunday

This is definitely a unique way to advertise for something as plain as water. Gets your attention and is effective.

  21. 21 Kiran Tyagi

It’s definitley a new and different way to advertise water, instead of the typical sports add, but I think its pointless, because water is water, and most people aren’t picky about which water they drink

  22. 22 Patrick Broderick

First off I need to say that I am an individual who prefers the taste of bottled water to tap water…call me crazy but I am conviced there is a difference. I think this is a very unique way to advertise as we all know sex sells! Obviously Europe is more risqué than the United States and you would never see a commercial for water like that here. Anyways, I thought it was witty and if it is working for them…keep at it!

  23. 23 K. Tsai

    Image is everything.

At first this seems so stupid, but then two seconds later, I start wondering if it’s genius. It’s pretty clever. I’ll settle for that.

  24. 24 Tyler Ritter

That is one HELL of a water commercial!

  25. 25 Sam Jager

If you have the money, than why not buy more expensive water?

  26. 26 Kyle Conley

Water is Water! That premium stuff they like to say is worse. It lacks the flouride that’s in city water which is good for teeth.

  27. 27 Art Leontiev

Drinking bottled/filtered water is well worth the cost/benifit ratio. Keep your eyes and ears open, after you see/hear some of the contamination found in tap water you’ll never go back to drinking that crap again. Price should never be an issue when it comes down to your health.

  28. 28 mtlehman

This commercial was very intriguing. Personally, I would never enter a water-producing company merely because there are so many brands of water already out there. The competition is indeed significant; not to mention the types of water which are flavored such as Propel. As a consumer, I tend to look for the cheapest case of water out there. All brands of water have to comply with the FDA standards, so it’s nonsense to pay more even if it may be from some amazing place called, “Fiji.” Let’s face it; it’s all two parts hydrogen and one part oxygen.

  29. 29 Joyce Chiu323

this is the coolest water-related ad that i have ever seen….that water-dress looks pretty nice on that blonde lady =)

  30. 30 Anvesh Dasari

The Ad is very creative. I like it.

  31. 31 Savannah

I like the idea of the commercial but water is water.. I mean I prefer bottled water over water from the sink but nonetheless.. im sure that water is expensive.. My mom buys perrier and i’ve never figured it out.. its like bubbly water.. its gross and its way overpriced.. I guess I just don’t see the big deal with water! ha

  32. 32 Ray

    i’m thirsty

  33. 33 Phil Liao

Yesiree. Bitch and a lucid H2O dress.

    Only in europe.

Thanks Hank for bringing us this classy advertisement!

  34. 34 Rocco Fasano

That’s some very clever advertising on their part.

  35. 35 Nicholas Daquila

My opinion is that water is not the same. It tastes different depending on where you get your water. I think it is ridiculous to spend money on expensive bottle water, when the water fountain is free. I have to agree with previous post that the ad was very interesting.

  36. 36 mallory govert

reading some of the comments up above, it is really funny how someone can take something as simple as water and make it into something to luxurious like this. water is simple & cheap… except it for what it is! :)

  37. 37 Sunxiaochen

wow, that commercial was definitely original and spectacular to see. If i had seen this on TV, it would have caught my attention immediately. Great advertising, and the bottle itself had a original look also. I would drink that water just to see how it tastes and would be reminded of the commercial.
