NYTimes last Tuesday had a great article about a very talented guy, “Joel Moss Levinson always knew he had a calling in life. But it took cheap video cameras, YouTube and some desperate corporations to show him what it was.” Seems that Joel has won over $200,000 by entering contests for advertising. Take a gander at the article. I have embedded a sample of his work, an advert for watermelons with a rap influence. The guy is talented! Hank

Hooray! First blog post of the day! I thought the ad was pretty funny. After all if I could make $200,000 just by doing random advertisements for desperate corporations, I’d do it. He found something he was good at and then pursued it.
HAHAHA not bad! Dean Kaman, Bill Gates, Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak (the less famous Apple co-founder who was the brain behind the computers in the beginning) were collage drop outs as well. Some people just were not made for collage.
Jim
I am very jealous of his talent, because I cannot rap.
HAha. I’ve never seen a commercial for something as simple as watermelon turn out to be so awesome. If all advertisements were this good I wouldn’t mind them trying to brainwash me. I watched it twice!
Read the NYT article and I am in utter disbelief…people think this man has talent????
He should be on SNL. That was a creative skit. Watermelon party hat!
haha he is a good rapper and an entertainer, like jon said, he should be on SNL!
This guy has his own special talents that I am not sure if anyone else has. He is a great showmen and he knows how to make people laugh. I think people would like him on a national stage. It amazes me how he can take such a simple product and make a humerous advertisment out of it.
haha that was pretty funny, I wouldn’t go as far as to say he was amazing, but certainly better and more entertaining than most people could have been.
Haha this guy has an interesting talent and a lot of ambition. I also hold high respect for his ability to make an original rap that engages the audience. Basically, by creating a funny skit like this, Joel can instill a positive memory of a product because people will associate that product with the laughter he creates. It would definitely be interesting to see him advertising other products with his lyrics.
HA hA ha ha ha ha. This guy should just stick to his cheap video camaras.
Uhmmm I hate to go against the crowd on this one but I thought it was kinda stupid. Clearly it appeals to most though so I’ve gotta go with it was a good job.
It did remind me of an SNL skit, Jon. This was a clever and humorous commercial, can’t ask for more than that.
Joel Levinson’s watermelon ad was very humerous and appealing to the audience because it’s just so different from the regular adds that are seen on tv/magazines. So his spin on things makes him stick outl, which is why he is so successful with what he does. He is just very creative!
That was a sweet song. I want it on my computer. Mr watermelon the party fruit mr watermelon the party fruit. I liked it a lot. He was not the only college dropout to make it big. Lets not forget Bill Gates.
Haha.. funny! I don’t know if its SNL worthy but it was pretty funny.. what a lucky guy! I wish making money was that easy for everyone:(
This was incredible! I loved this little video. This reminds me of the epMotion musc video that was created for a chemistry automation machine. It’s done in a boy-band fashion.
You can check it out at the youtube video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J0s0Y3-BCaw
I highly recommend checking it out. It’s fantastic!
haha, I love it. It kind of reminds me of the Smirnoff “Tea Party” ad.
I don’t really like rap, but that’s a cute song! Really cracked me up. It’s a really unique ad. I just wish he mentioned ‘Sundia’, because it would bring the brand’s name more.
wow this is awesome i like how his words jump out at you
This guy does have a talent for making people laugh. I think he found his niche in life.
If only I could rap…then I could drop out of school! haha jk
I wonder if this makes big advertising companies mad, that they’re being outsourced to silly people without formal education.
And this is hilarious.
This was great. I’m pretty sure this guy found what he should do with his life. I like how he can promote something as simple as a watermelon.
good video, entertained me and caught my attention. like the word effects too.
haha thats awesome. definately sold me. i wont EVER have another party with out mr. watermelon. haha
Wow, that looked pretty professional.
I think he could be the next Borat or have a place in MTV.
Perhaps their is always a chance to succeed no matter what situation one is in. This guy certainly seemed to defy expectations.
I think this ad is crazy, but very interesting to watch how you can go so many things with watermelon. This guy has alot of talent when it comes to advertising.
Just goes to show how anything catchy has great potential. It is kind of funny to see what some mistake for talent.
The way people get noticed on the internet is unbelievable.
I think it’s really cool as well. Probably all the people who get noticed on youtube or other websites probably never would have gotten recognition without them.
WOW!! That was one of the funniest videos I have ever seen. I’m not a big watermelon guy but I feel like I owe it another try after that.
if it catches your eye, it sells!
bill gates dropped out of college
this computer doesn’t have sound but
i didn’t know watermelon had commercials
That is an awesome commercial for watermelon!
That guy is a hilarious advertiser, I can’t believe he is making that much money though
great commercial. the song had good tunes and it rhymed; especially the part when it shows why watermelon is better compared to the other fruits. Also, to add to the commercial, watermelon is very good!!!
