With technology increasing at such a rapid rate, it’s no surprise that the key to learning will revolve around certain technological processes. Video games or as I like to call them in educational lingo, interactive activities, will hold great promise to those classrooms of the near future. It’s a great way to get students involved in class activities and to help reinforce key objectives through interactive learning. I agree that it’s easier to comprehend certain ideas when established through a visual medium. It takes the stress off of your mind (in terms of just reading textbooks) and allows you to apply concepts in certain scenarios. Overall, I agree with Hank, “Neat Class to Consider.”

    mebbe. Who knows? Looks interesting…

This class looks like it would apply to alot of people. There is no doubt that video games are becoming a large part of our society so it makes sense that we are now using them to teach and even hold classes over. It would be a neat class to attend and find out what it is about.

Looks pretty interesting but I got a loaded schedule next semester so I’ll consider it when I have time. But there is a lot of potential for an educational video game industry to grow and develop into the multimillion dollar benchmark, and after a generation or two maybe even multibillion. This technology could be sold to schools if it proves to be more effective. And if schools use it then soon parents will buy it for their kids to use outside of school. Eventually (or perhaps before schools) adults could very well start using it. Imagine a video game that teaches not only languages but also the customs and traditions of certain countries all at the same time. That would be a priceless tool for business men in the global market and if it’s being sold to corporations prices could be jacked up. I see the future in this technology.

This does seem like a class that alot of people would apply to.
I am always curious why people keep buying products that are similar to each other, such as football games, shooting games and role playing games.
But thats what makes it so good for entrepreneurs.

  6. 6 John Heritage

Really looks interesting not my particular interest but I know a few people who might enroll for this themselves.

  7. 7 Jon Perl

When I was searching for classes, I was happily surprised about how relevant and up-to-date classes Purdue offers.

  8. 8 Phil Liao

Yes indeed. With the multi-billion dollar videogame industry, there has been birth given to videogame colleges. Being a videogame designer with no name is difficult, but I suppose a degree and some connections could land you with a producer or developer.

Anyhoo, videogames cost around $5-$25 million to create, so it’s not as if anyone can just approach a videogame company and hope to land a deal.

It’s courses like these that can professionally prep your mind and skills sets to move into the videogame industry.

sounds to me as a very lucrative field of study, that has a lot of potential.

  10. 10 Sam Jager

With all the new technology i can see this field expanding very rapidly, but i also agree that it might be pretty hard for individuals to land a deal with a major video game producer.

  11. 11 Allison Erskine

Looks like a different and interesting class. Not really what I’m into, but definately a good opportunity for others!

  12. 12 kyshah

Looks very interesting and different…but not my cup of tea!

I think this idea of “fun learning” has been around forever.

It’s kind of hard to compare video game fun to educational fun.

    Someone’ll get it eventually.

  15. 15 Art Leontiev

Seems like an interesting course. Grandmas boy anybody?

  16. 16 Rick Schuman

The class looks like something i’d like to do. But is it for educational purposes only? I know that they actually have video game degrees at some universities. I didn’t know Purdue might have been one of them.

  17. 17 Mark Wohlford 323

Grandma’s Boy? Ha ha, I’m loving it

  18. 18 Arjun

Thanks for the info hank, but I’m packed with 17 credits… May take this next semester…

    Really interesting and different…

  19. 19 Matt Sunday

I like the idea of mixing computer programming with educational video games. This is definitely a useful course and quite a unique one as well.

  20. 20 Brian Lee

This is a pretty useful course that’s out of the ordinary. I don’t know how many people will take it but it will definitely appeal to some.

  21. 21 mallory govert

thanks for the information… not really my thing though!

  22. 22 Nicholas Daquila

I may actually consider taking it.

  23. 23 Danielle Fordham

I’m not into this really, but I know a couple people I know who would love to join this class. If I see them around campus I’ll let them know about it if I can remember. This class seems like a great way to get hands on experience though. So if you like this sort of thing I say go for it!! =]

  24. 24 Joyce Chiu323

i would love to take this class, too bad i already have 19 credits for spring already =(

  25. 25 Stephen Xu

This was actually an idea that I came up with a long, long time ago. Too bad I was too young to actually put it in practice. There are a lot of LeapFrog programs out there, etc, etc that would affect my children and the way they learn sooner or later. Therefore, I would seriously think about attending this class.

  26. 26 Rocco Fasano

If someone makes a game for educational purposes It should be fun and engaging as well. I’ve played several educational games throughout my academic career and I know from experience that a boring game can’t keep the attention of an ambitious person, or any person.

  27. 27 Scott Wilson

looks pretty fun. Who wouldn’t want to take a class like this?
I probably won’t but it seems really interesting :p

  28. 28 Savannah Englert

I still don’t see the interest in gaming…

  29. 29 Julia Johns

I would not do very well in this class. lol

  30. 30 Mark Miller

Could be interesting but doesn’t fit into my schedule

  31. 31 Jenn Ziegler 200

I’ve always said that if school material were set to a funny, interesting movie, I would be getting amazing grades. I guess for all the gamers out there, this would be pretty exciting. I feel that a younger demographic (elementary school children) an their parents would enjoy educational video games.

  32. 32 Ray Glenn

gaming is good for taking your mind off of stressful things like school…
