I always hate to be reminded about the importance of backups. Aren't all your blog posts and comments (minus the wordpress files, your theme, and your plugins) in the database, so deleting the /blog directory doesn't delete your content? [I !was actually on the server and when I deleted the blog all the SQL database info which houses content and comments was deleted also, including the directory holding the basic Wordpress "stuff."
