WSJ: So, You Want to Be an Entrepreneur
Posted on February 24th, 2009 17 commentsYesterday, 2/23/09, The WSJ ran a cover story So, You Want to Be an Entrepreneur. It is here and well worth the read. Think about it and look at the lint in your own navel – you may not like what you see. Hank

This was a great read. There are some great points brought up that people need to really think about. Personally, I grew up with a dad who ran his own business so I am aware that there are many stressful times for these families. I am also always looking for books to read that will benefit me with whatever I do and I am glad that “The Entrepreneur Next Door” was mentioned.

That article hit a lot of key points that I feel my uncle needed three years back when he tried to start his own business. It lasted only two years and went under. He ended up selling the name and the equipment because it was too much time and stress on the family and himself. This is a very good article to give you a basis for thinking like an entrepreneur.

That’s a rough article for a poor college student to read. Both of my parents are entrepreneurs and I know many people who are as well. This really seems to have their personalities nailed. The great thing about entrepreneurship classes in college is that it allows us to meet other people that could “compliment” us in business, or help us figure out that entrepreneurship is not for us before we lose lots of money.

I think this article brings out all the key things you should think about when starting a business. I don’t think some people realize just how much it takes to start a business and this article doesn’t sugar coat it. Alot of start ups have potential for being successful, but it’s all up to the creator to manage it and make it a product worth selling. Also, I think the financial aspect of it makes alot of us poor college students shy away from doing anything. We have no money to invest into a business, we just want to make it out of college with as little debt as possible. It sounds like the article is more geared towards older people who are tired of working in a cubicle.

This is a great article for people who maybe want to become an entrepreneur but are not not quite sure. Sometimes one forgets all of the strings attached to such a lifestyle. While each venture is different, there are some characteristics that every entrepreneur should share. Like Hank has said, with the economy where it is at, now is a perfect time to take on a challenge.

That article makes a lot of good points like the financial and time commitment responsibilities. It really shows that if you want to start a business, you have to be willing to commit in full from the beginning on.

This article prompted me to consider the sacrafices that I may have to make in order to become an entrepreneur. There were a lot of issues it brought up that I never considered when thinking about owning my own business, and I don’t think many do consider the lifestyles changes that may have to be made when they are caught up in the excitement of a new venture.

Nice article. They mentioned really good points to think about when starting your own business. After reading this article I think I might have to get a business partner if I ever start my own business because I don’t think I would like some aspects of the administration that needs to be done.

I agree with the others. I think that this article really gives people a reality check including myself. Being and entreprenuer is a only cut out for those who are willing to lose everything for thier business success. i believe that sometimes you have to ingnore these types of things. I like things that show the good side of things and express how your personal characteristics fit those of a successful entreprenuer. My advice would to anyone would be to just believe in yourself, but at the same time you can never under extimate the challenge.

That article was the most informative article that I have ever read regarding the subject in that few words. Thanks for posting.

This article definitely throws light on the reality on being an entrepreneur but it cannot shake the determination of those who are born to be one….

I thought it was a very insightful and helpful article.I agree that this gives myself and probably most other people a reality check. I never really thought of all the sacrifices and changes I would have to make. This article definitely points out some key points that we need to know and understand if we are to become an entrepreneur.

To be an entrepreneur takes alot of hard work and this article. It takes effort and time and patience to be an entrepreneur. I don’t think an article can cover what an entreprenuer has to do to achieve success. It can pin point on things, but people won’t know how much they have to sacrifice until it is in their reality.

That article was really interesting. I always find it interesting what people think makes a good entrepreneur. I also think that people have to realize how much of a commitment being an entrepreneur can be, yet at the same time it can be very rewarding.

This covered a lot of main important points that many people don’t take seriously and think won’t happen to their company. My dad owns his own business and that has made me fully aware of how a company can be extremely time consuming, need important decisions made, and go through hard times. The reward seems to be just as great if you love it!

Appreciate the post Hank. I knew entrepreneurs had most of these qualities but this report goes into detail. Thanks a lot.
