Have A Happy Friday: Hank Rolls out fliggo.com site
Posted on February 27th, 2009 14 commentsYesterday/Thursday I signed up for and created my own “YouTube” video server using the new and free fliggo.com service nurtured by Y Combinator. The video is not all that good which is my fault; the original sucked. I intend to try fliggo out as a place to host video used on thinkbeta.com/blog. So far so good not so good. Seems like fliggo.com didn’t like my first video and pulled/blocked it. Try this one: http://hank.fliggo.com/video/DZblFcwH

Video’s not displaying for me either. While I’m a fan of making it easier for consumers to create, share, and host media, I’m a wee bit weary of giving everyone easy access to doing so. The web offers extremely beneficial information, and grants people to rant and rave, share information/data, and all the like and such. But I feel like it’s being soiled when sites LIKE YouTube and MySpace start deviating from their original structure and create this mess of hodge-podged games, goodies, advertisements, and applications.
I just feel as though this will propel many people (not all) to replicate these sites, creating an association between the Internet and cluttered information. I mean, think about it. People will sit there and say, “Hey. If I add these banner ads or Google Adsense to my site, and people traffic it, I can make money.” Everyone wants to make money of course, and granted this is reliant off of traffic in and out of the site, but I feel that when EVERYONE utilizes the SAME concept and technology in an attempts to market the same package, it depreciates the value of the market offering for EVERYONE. There’s my rant for the day.

I like the idea of making a site that is not so crowded with a lot of information and links to other videos that have nothing to do with what you are watching. Even though I could not load the video, I guess you could get the sense of things that may have been glitches for other start up websites such as youtube. I have realized that with a lot of different video streaming websites, the quality is always a problem, and then there is the problem of where did the video go…like this case.
I do look forward to see what the videos actually look like and how this may go in the near future.

I could also not get the video to load. I agree that video sharing websites do run across alot of problems it seems like. I have had multiple problems with streaming, quality, and other minor problems that shouldn’t as much of a hassle as they are.

I got it to work and in my opinion, that was really sweet. I too didn’t know what the final product was going to be, but i thought it was really interesting and it made me laugh. Thanks for making my day better!

the video of Honda is an exaggerated version of Rube Goldberg mechanism.. in fact we had one competition here at Purdue Armory last Saturday. I saw it and it was good.

The video worked for me! I love Rube Goldbergs. The wheels unrealistically lurch forward though around 40 seconds though.

I don’t know why, (I’m not even an engineering major) this video suddenly inspired me to join the Purdue team that participates in the annual Rube Goldberg competition. I also have a friend that is on the team (he lives down the hall) and he always kept me updated with this year’s project.

The video worked really quickly for me and didn’t take more than a couple of seconds to load. It is really nice to be able to see a video without banners flooding your vision with advertisements.
