  • Comin’ Down The Pike: Clean Energy

Recently, Harry Reid, the “statesman” from Nevada and leader of the Senate, stated “Coal makes us sick….” See video below. Less than a week ago, Henry Waxman and Ed Markey released the details about their Clean Energy Bill (Waxman-Markey Bill) for “consideration.” Bound to be contentious for the stance taken over Cap and Trade, climate concerns, and how to tackle global warming [which I'm not convinced is the issue it's being made out to be], I’ve embedded a five page Scribd of the essence of the bill below the video for you to skim. Knowing which way the wind is blowing is central to becoming a successful entrepreneur. Wet your finger (your choice) and feel the hot air blow. Hank

    2. Doesn’t look like a bad bill, but its just a summery so its probably leaving out the 5000 loop holes and doesn’t get into specifics on how much money will be spent.

But we need a lot of this, and requiring alternative energies is a pretty good way to force it on us. And if we have to be 25% renewable by 2025 (tragic it would need to take that long) you can bet your ass people will be developing some very efficient solar cells / wind turbines.

And about global warming I take it for truth. and here is my argument: We can do something about it, boost the economy and guarantee a safe, habitable environment for our kids. Or we can do nothing, maybe get lucky (although An Inconvenient Truth does a pretty good job at shooting down your hope for luck) and everything is fine, OR the worst happens, ice caps melt, massive flooding, extreme weather patterns; make Katrina look like a joke.

      You Pick.

    3. I find the part on “Ensuring Domestic Competitiveness” interesting. From the research about our alternative energy company, the largest reason that people haven’t switched to alternative energy is $$$$. All systems are expensive and don’t have a short payback period. This “border adjustment” program seems to be counter to this idea that systems need to be cheaper.

Computers were the same way initially– they were expensive and cool and everybody wanted one, but very few had them. Then, they got cheaper and now everybody has one.

    4. I like how during the interview he stated that we need to look at the bottom line which is what most companies are look at. The coals and oils are making us sick and all those expenses add up over time. By simply improving our energy consumption and coming up with alternatives and actually implementing these new technologies we will be able to save our bodies and checkbooks.

People aren’t switching to alternate energy items because it is too expensive. People want to go green but right now it cost a chunk of change. I agree with with Troy when he talks about how Harry said coal makes us sick and the expenses add over time.

We must switch to all alternative fuel sources over the next couple of years. This will definitely help cut down on pollution as well as creating plenty of jobs which Americans sorely need.
