I viewed a clip about this company on Bloomberg’s Venture program yesterday evening. Verterra is about making organic plates [for eating off of] from palm leaves. The founder and CEO Michael Dwork has an interesting background here: A 10:00 interview with him is below. Hank

This is a great idea, I would really like to try using them!

    2. This is quite the interesting idea. Good way to use dead palm leaves.

    3. Wow, good idea.It is nice to see people looking for all resources to help the environment.

    4. What a good idea to use dead palm leaves, it is helping the environment and they look great! People will def. want to buy these!

I think that the plates look pretty cool especially if you lived on the beach or something so it will be able to go with your kitchen decor.

Looks awesome and is something that people may buy because they still look good and its something that can make them feel like they are helping the environment. Plus its something kinda cool to brag about to your friends and makes you look good at the same time.

This could definately have potential. With it seems like everyone these days wanting organic and green products, these plates would be a great solution!

    8. I like the design. They have a modern/retro look. I could see them being used in decades past but they also have the look of something made in this decade. I like the concept behind them as well. It will be interesting to see what else is going to be made from this material.

    9. Interesting idea. I have a giant dried out palm leaf that’s just decoration and I always wondered if you could make stuff with it… looks like you can!

Their website claims the plates are microwave, oven, and refrigerator safe, but I wouldn’t try the broiler or dishwasher with them. If you’re not a fan of flat plates, you can soak them in water and they will get really pliable again.

Surfing around their website I noticed that the bottom of every page has “Shop Verterra.com now!” to push you to buy them. Even in the small 96 pack, they are under $1 per plate, which easily puts them in the gladware price range, but much more elegant. Cool!

    10. I think food will taste better on a leaf. You could even eat the plate for an extra dose of fiber.

These plates are very cool. People should continue to look to find alternative uses for everyday things especially in evironmentally safe ways. If more things were engineered out of waste we would be able to conserve a lot more of our fossil fuels.
