Are Europeans nuts or just fun loving people?
Posted on October 14th, 2009 39 commentsHere’s another one from Beth Carroll. Looks like she’s got a thing for beer. Hank
“Everyone gets Happy on board of the Beer bike!”
“A ride that simply is a must. De biggest beer bike in the world with 30 litres of beer on board. Ideal for a stag weekend, family day or spending the day with friends whilst enjoying the sights of Amsterdam. You see it all with a beer in your hand or even a nice cigarette, because smoking is allowed on the beer bike! Thanks to our driver/guide everyone on board can enjoy a beer, Cheers!”
Cost: E550 = $808
Includes: 30 litres of beer = 8 gallons
Holds 10-22 people and the tour lasts 2-3 hours, or until you fall off.
Drinkers help peddle the bike, but a sober driver steers.
And just when you thought it couldn’t get any better than this, now you can have your beerbike and Karaoke too!
There have been a couple of serious accidents involving the beer bus, but City officials in Amsterdam have chosen not to ban it. Why do you think that might be? Double decker buses have offered tours of US cities like Chicago and New York for years. Would a beerbike tour be supported here in the States? Beth

Wow! but how safe is this for other people on the roads would be my question to the beer bikers? I know it would be great fun to go beer biking with friends and family; but how safe is it?!

It definitely would not work here. There are parts of cities in europe that are off limits to cars unless they receive special clearance. I don’t know, but i feel like this would be driven mostly in those areas. Otherwise I think the idea is great and don’t know if there’s a better way to see amsterdam.

LOVE IT! What an insteresting way to see Amsterdam. Although Im sure that could be hazardous at times its more commonly accepted in Europe because they allow for a more flexibility in their culture. The reason why things like that arent proposed in big cities like Chicago and New York [where there are tours available] is because those cities function off of quick paced movement. The streets are too heavily populated and traffic is ususally at a stop and go.

I enjoyed the driver taking a drink of one of the passengers beers at the beginning of the video. Don’t know how much he has had, but that seems to ruin the idea of a sober driver. I’m all for the idea though as it sounds like it would be a good time. $808 is a little steep though in my mind.

Thats pretty cool but only 8 gallon of beer doesn’t seem like very much for 22 people in 3 hr time period. But if you look at it from another point of view, 10 people, 8 gallons, and only 2 hours, now that would be a much better time!

Definitely would check something like this out if I ever went there. Though $808 is kind of expensive, split it enough ways and it’d be reasonable…. especially because it includes the beer.

That is absolutely hilarious, I think its a very good idea that would appeal to a lot of tourists there.
-
Christina Jacobs October 14th, 2009 at 12:35
That is great! What an idea… I am sure many tourists would not mind spending the money for such a unique experience.

No, in the US this should not be legalized…this is very dangerous to the people on board, pedestrians, and motor vehicles. Europeans are crazy!!

FUN LOVING PEOPLE!! I want to try it!

Christopher Perry October 14th, 2009 at 13:04
I think it needs a wider base it looks a bit top heavy, then you have to think with that many people peddling how can they make it stop with just 1 sober person trying. Still it looks like it would be fun if they redesigned it.

biggest one in the world?… where are the other ones. It’s an awesome idea; wonder if you could run something like that here in the states.

Ha that’s really funny, they should bring it to the USA, I would be up for it…I wonder what happens with injuries of people falling off

Ross Peare October 14th, 2009 at 14:39
This would be a crazy awesome experience. I would like to try this out for sure. Seems like a good investment for tourism.

I feel like this idea could be very appealing, but also very dangerous. I hope there is some way to strap these people on the beer bike otherwise I think people falling off could pose a problem.
-
I think its pure fun. Europeans are really fun loving people and this seems like an awesome ride. I would also like to try this out sometime if possible. But I definitely would want to see Amsterdam at least once.
“This might not work out well in America though.” I have no clue why I feel so, but I do.

This is hilarious. I know a lot of people that would LOVE to experience the views of Amsterdam via the Beer Bike. While I would try this and think its fun, I have a feeling it would not be accepted in the United States.

I feel like that would only work in a country known for beer. I would love to try it if I were in Amsterdam though. Ha it would be great

Quentin Campbell October 14th, 2009 at 18:39
This is crazy…I kinda want to ride on one now. They should definitely put one of these in the U.S.

This is such a clever idea. In Wisconsin, we have German Fest and im sure they all would eat it up like cake with this beer bike. I don’t know about the safety for it. But I still want to try it!

Aaron Curtis October 14th, 2009 at 19:47
I think this would gain great money for many cities in America, and attract many more tourist like Amsterdam is getting now.
-
Jenna York October 14th, 2009 at 20:11
Europeans are fun loving people! This is awesome! A great way to take a tour without the boring tour guide.
-
Emily Wetterich October 14th, 2009 at 20:49
That looks like a lot of fun! Is it $808 per person? I saw something like that in Germany minus the beer. I guess they wouldn’t get rid of it because it’s a tourist attraction and a money maker!

Brent McClean October 14th, 2009 at 21:37
This has tourism written all over it. So and so asked, did you do it?! It’s a great marketing buzz.
-
That is awesome. Let’s go to Amsterdam!

Caroline Stephenson October 14th, 2009 at 22:22
Sweet. This really just boggles my mind, and you all know it was totally thought up by someone who was drunk. “Like guys, wouldn’t it be really great if we could… um… drink beer and… BIKE RIDE AT THE SAME TIME!” And I am sure all of his drunken buddies raised a toast to him. Thus the beer bike was born. Amen.
-
David Uhlenhake October 15th, 2009 at 01:44
Possibly the best invention ever! I would totally ride that beer bike!
-
Eugene October 15th, 2009 at 02:56
The last thing I want is group of drunken tourist riding on a Giant bike through the streets. But I would totally ride that bike…..IDK about the price thought

That is awesome! It is amazing how far the alcohol and tobacco industries have come despite being high on the list of being 2 of the most scrutinized industries, as well as the most ["sin-"]taxed!
-
Steve Shih October 15th, 2009 at 10:27
This sounds like fun, although I doubt that it can be legal in the U.S especially in big cities like Chicago, LA, and New York.
-
Nick Brenneke October 15th, 2009 at 10:46
This is a funny and unique service. Like someone said earlier, it’s a great tourism opportunity.

Rohan Thakkar October 15th, 2009 at 11:21
only in Europe that is great advertising, to bad the us government is to up tight and would never allow something like this
-
Zack Saunders October 15th, 2009 at 11:46
I love this idea but i feel like the US would not allow it because the government is to worried about their image…

Shawn Tomlinson October 15th, 2009 at 15:41
Gotta love Amsterdam. Doesn’t matter that isn’t completely unsafe, its an awesome way to drink as a family or just a large group. No way is this making it to the US, there are just too many safety restrictions when it comes to public transportation.
-
This looks really funny. But people should be aware of their safety.

I wonder if the driver is drinking too? It’s an interesting concept, and a smart one too. This is a site we would never see in the United States. But, considering the tourists could be smoking weed as they ride along as well, I was not at all surprised to see this as a way to tour Amsterdam. It’s a creative idea that’s most likely making someone pretty good money.

I didn’t know people actually had to bike on that cart. It is very interesting. I wonder can they make profit out of that. But it is very good idea people can drink beer and go sight seeing at the same time. But what happens when they are out of beer? Are there several kinds to choose from? The driver has to be aware of when he should change. I think it will help promote Amsterdam tour attraction.
