• Five Fingers – Going Viral?

fivefingers-2_jpgSergey Brin, the cofounder of none less than Google, recently was videoed at the Web 2.0 conference wearing Five Fingers. What do you want to bet their sales shoot through the roof?  I’ve included some links extolling the virtues of the “shoes” and embedded a video wherein Sergey is wearing same. This boys and girls, is what virtual marketing is all about – by “accident” not on purpose. Hank

    1. Well no surprise that the shoe sales would spike up as soon as the Sergey Brin put them on. They look rather interesting and im sure hikers, after reading some of the articles, agree that they are a good find to use on hikes. I wonder how long these will last, or the wear on the shoes will hold up through other climates.

I see these taking off very well, I think that they will be similar to the Crocs. The more colors that are offered the more sales that will be made and I can see parents buying these for their kids to wear around the house.

    3. FiveFingers are perfect for all kinds of conditions and activities. I’m an avid wearer of them – i wear them for walking, running, climbing and even surfing! They hold up in all of these activities perfectly! The brand has been growing alot over the past couple of years, you can see for yourself if you do a google blog search for them – everybody is talking about them!

    4. When I go rock climbing I see quite a few people hiking around in them, I don’t see as many people climbing in them really, but they look like very interesting shoes.

    5. I’m always amazed how popular some of these shoes are. I am a skier and have noticed many unique designs that are supposed to offer you better traction on snow and ice. I’ll have to keep an eye out if I see this particular shoe becoming popular.

    6. Wow those are definitely a different type of shoe. It is also a marketing tool that he said that they are very good for a sprained ankle.

Advertising agencies are focusing more and more on product placement and less of traditional commercials to get the word out on their products. This is a perfect example of how placing your product can be so much more effective than just running a series of ads.

    8. This is really unique. I haven’t seen anything like this in person.

    9. I’ve proudly owned a pair for 1.5 years and they rock!

    10. Allison Weilbaker

I’ve seen people around campus wear these but I’m not sure if I could switch over to them yet. They look a bit ridiculous but if they help then more power to the ones that wear them

    11. viral marketing is cutting edge, but is it really reaching as much people as it should? personally I have never seen anyone wearing those and im quite skeptical to their performance

These shoes are definately interesting… I have yet to see a pair, but I can see why people would purchase them. They are given a good word and are something new… why not?

    13. These are hideous. Personally I would never wear them, but I could see they would be pretty comfortable.

    14. I personally do not think this kind of shoes look good, but nowadays many people are seeking comfort instead of fashion,so maybe it has a large market.

    15. I would never wear them just to wear them; however, the story on CrunchGear makes them sound very useful to those in need. Pretty cool.

    16. I do not personally like these shoes, but I think they will be a good item in the market like crocs have been.

    17. U-G-L-Y. but then again i know i never thought UGGs were that striking when i first saw them at first but at one point my mind changed and i was like “i want those.” Definitely a great way to market! They seem to really be able to help people out with running problems. My mom has plantar facietitis (spellcheck) and is constantly trying things out.

Personally, I would never buy these and would never assume they would make it as a product, but after seeing Crocs success, I guess anything is possible.

I would just give it a try. I think that since Sergey Brin wore them, there might be certain sales for these shoes. But you never now how the market tend to go with a new product.

    20. I personally is not interested in this product but I am pretty sure there is still a certain market for this product.

    21. I think toe socks get the same job done, with ever more cuteness! I will wait until these guys are maybe a little cuter, or made for actual heat insulation.

    22. Celebrity endorsement is the biggest way to get your product up and running. Sergey has definitely helped this company out. It will be interesting to see if FiveFingers experiences success like Crocs. I am like Katelyne and am anxious to see if they make these cute and dress them up.

    23. I have seen pictures of these shoes before and they look amazing. The only concern that I would have with these, is the lack of ankle support.

    24. This is js like the girls who had opra n all those celebs endorse her product all it takes is for one seleb to like your product, and others will follow.

    25. Emily Wetterich

These are awesome! I really want a pair of these. They would be great for people who have trouble spreading their toes. I can see how this would be very popular with yoga fans.

    26. I thought Nike or something else had this kind of idea quite long ago. It is said that this kind of shoes work best for the development of feet. But in my opinion, they are ugly…:)

    27. This is the first i’ve heard or seen of these shoes and i’d like a pair if only because they look so quirky lol

    28. I saw a kid wearing these around campus the other day, did three or four takes till i was comfortable with the idea of someone wearing them for fun. I’d be interested in trying a pair for running or something.

    29. Interesting idea, not that appealing yet but could be comfortable

    30. Marisa Nakajima

They might be nice for rock climbing. Maybe they provide a better grip? The look of this shoe is a little far fetched though and personally I don’t like toe-socks, so I probably wouldn’t like these. The toe-socks didn’t go far so why would this? At least toe-socks could be worn with flip-flops, these are something totally different.

    31. These shoes look very comfortable, will this be good for rock climbing? i think this has potential to be fashion trend. I think it will especially become a good market if there is running shoes related to this. But very unique design.
