The Hustler’s 10 Commandments (by Hotep)
Posted on December 3rd, 2009 48 commentsThis blog was submitted by Team 9 of my Entrepreneurship Learning Community ENTR200 class. Hank
Throughout the first semester of our careers at Purdue University, I am sure that we, students of ENTR 200, have learned a lot about what it takes to be a true entrepreneur. As we should have learned in the class, we must get our noses outside of the “entrepreneurship” textbook and begin our journeys as entrepreneurs. Even though we must start begin our entrepreneurial careers sometime in the very near future, it does not mean we cannot continue our research on entrepreneurial strategies and techniques that will give us an edge above other fellow entrepreneurs-in-training. Of the many books that we can read to study on strategies and tips, (such as the Art of War, 48 Laws of Power, 33 Strategies of War, and the 50th Law), there is one more book that we can add to the collection.

The Hustler’s 10 Commandments is based on 10 common laws that have been used by many of the world’s most powerful, wealthy, and influential people. As quoted in the book’s website, “The Hustler’s 10 are based off of various proven strategies for success and self empowerment used by self-made millionaires, entrepreneurs, political leaders, business tycoons and spiritual gurus.” The “10 commandments” are as follows:

This book definitely looks like a good addition to a collection of recommended entrepreneurial books. Everyone should definitely check it out.

I’m loving the name of this book. It’s a good concept though. I would imagine that this book could be an essential for rising entrepreneurs.

Never read the book, but just from the 10 commandments, it might actually be worth reading. “Might”

The title of the book alone is eye catching, especially to entrepreneurs looking for a leg up. The 10 commandments, I can see look like they are applicable to the real world for business.

From what i read in this brief overview it looks like a must read book. I like the ten commandments approach. I agree with the first commandments about your network is your networth. I have been working hard to find internships and found that friends and family are the best way.

This seems like it could be a very useful tool for any up and coming entrepreneur. I might have to read this book for myself.
-
I still haven’t gotten the book yet, but I would like to get and read it and add it to my “entrepreneurial” collection.

Seems to be a good book, the only problem is that I don’t usually get along with books that well, I just don’t have the patience to sit down and read, I have to be doin something, have to be moving around, have to be hands on.

The ten commandments are very good. I might have to get the book to see their explanations for them.

The commandments at their rawest form are rather insightful and can be applied towards entrepreneurs. I’m sure if I were to read the book, they would be explained in further detail and become better applicable.

Now all we need is a rap song to advertise the book!! 50 Cent, where ya at?!
-
Alex Lewis December 3rd, 2009 at 11:17
Wow all ten of these commandments are things I’ve heard before from entrepreneurs. This book might be worth a read as it seems to know what it is actually talking about.

Phillip Jenkins December 3rd, 2009 at 12:05
Those commandments seems more like facts or statements than commands.
Hustle means to force or be aggressive.
Slang for it even means to be deceptive and thief-like to get what you want.I don’t think I’d put “The Art of War” by Sun Tzu in with an entrepreneurship list. Unless you plan on being a ruthless business person. Although I do guess respect goes with that territory. Might as well be honorable about being cutthroat.
Seems more like a book that should discuss business ethics to me.

entrepreneurs could use this to get them started but shows that its business not personal.

In response to Phillip Jenkins: those are valid points. Remember though, that not everything even in the real bible is taken literaly. And you definitely can’t be a push-over if you want to be an entrepreneur.

This looks like a really good book. I like the title. I’m going to add it to my reading list.

Like many people have commented before me, the tips look to be great. It’s interesting that it has a mixtape as well, an obvious take from rap culture. The fact that people like Russell Simmons and DJ Red Alert are co-signing for this book is impressive. I’ll have to check it out after I read “The 50th Law.”

Even I have to say that the tips seem very meaningful and also attractive. I hope I will read this book in the winter.

I definitely think this contains some good concepts for entrepreneurs. I like the quote, “The way you dress is how you’re addressed” also…good tip.

I’ve heard of this book before. It would be interesting to read.
-
The tenth commandment is my favourite one. I can see how these ten can work for entrepreneurs. It should be a good book to read.

I like those 10! Definitely looks interesting to read.
-
Olivia Freeman December 3rd, 2009 at 18:38
I love these. And i would love to be a hustler. In beyonce’s words a divvvaaaaaa is a female version of a hustler. OKAY i need to stop now. haha It is funny that a hustler’s 10 commandments are relevant to entr.

I like the commandments but I don’t know if I could read a whole book about them. My dad, being an entrepreneur, always has books like these around the house. I guess since I grew up with them around, I kind of despise them now especially when my dad wants to “talk” about them, but I mean, he’s a potential customer.

sure sounds like a book worth reading!

The second one sounds interesting.

Chris Perry December 3rd, 2009 at 20:08
I believe those ten but I also beleive it takes a special type of person to be a “Hustler” not everyone can pull it off.

Another good book to add is the Ten Faces of Innovation by Tom Kelley. It’s full of awesome ideas and great stories about people innovating in their lines of work. http://www.tenfacesofinnovation.com/

I like number 7. “Everything is negotiable. Everything.” That made me laugh because it reminds me of myself. I’m always trying to buy something off someone, even if they don’t want to sell it. I always think there’s a way of convincing them to give it to me, one way or another. But, anyways, I would like to read the book. With a title like that, the book has to be aimed at teenagers and young adults. I can’t picture my dad going out and buying a book with that title. I’m judging the book by it’s cover, and I want to read it. I like the ten commandments, and they are so true. Reading just that, makes me want to go out and buy the book. I bet it contains really good advice and insight.

Oh and by the way- Professor Feeser-
I tried to watch the video and I couldn’t get the sound to work. Don’t know if it’s my computer or the video. (just so you know) -
Looks like those commandments are very applicable to the up and coming entrepreneur as well as most entrepreneur’s that have already begun their journey. Interesting stuff.

I definitely agree. This book would be a great addition to this class. I think it would make the class a little more personal because the textbook is cold. I always find books like that to be inspirational

-
David Uhlenhake December 4th, 2009 at 20:16
Why is there a need to buy the book if they already leaked the commandments? Does this book teach you how to do the dance? haha
-
Mayura Davda December 4th, 2009 at 21:52

This book sounds like something worth reading. I wouldn’t read it now though, maybe in the summer when I’m not flooded with tons of different readings from different classes.

Haha. The name of this book really cracks me up, but surprisingly, I found that the commandments on the cover were very serious and legitimate. I think that this book could be helpful to any young, or beginning entrepreneur.

Looking over the 10 of these it scares me a little bit how many of these skills I feel that I lack. I am not anywhere near ready to open my own business.
-
Marisa Nakajima December 8th, 2009 at 23:12
This is very interesting and these 10 Commandments are very important for Hustlers and Entrepreneurs alike.
-
