LinkedIn

LinkedIn is a social networking site geared for the workplace. Being a relatively new site, opened in May 2003, it has quite a large base of 50 million users. Half of these are found in the U.S. alone, but it spans the globe with as many as 200 countries. This site has its advantages for new business owners. The first of which is that it can introduce you to many other business owners that could have been previously been overlooked. A business owner can add connections from their contacts already in their e-mail list but could also find important alliances with other companies, to outsource if needed. The second is that it has options of web seminar and trade shows that the user can utilize. Another interesting feature is that it lists local jobs and even the profile of a hiring manager. The site is a gated community to really build trust among the connections while networking. This is an important concept to that of the class [ENTR200] because, though students may have heard of LinkedIn, they may not know how to utilize it. This is how we, as team 8, found the entrepreneur Tom Houck to do our midterm interview with.
Not only is LinkedIn a useful tool for entrepreneurs but it is also entrepreneurial itself. Just as with Facebook and Myspace, LinkedIn is always looking for new and innovative ideas to keep customers returning to the site. It started an interesting idea called LinkedIn Answers which is similar to Yahoo Answers in that it allows a user to ask their community a question while getting an answer that they can trust. LinkedIn An interesting site that includes an introductory video is listed below. The management team has a lot of experience in the internet world, the CEO, Jeff Weiner, had a leading role in Yahoo’s Network Division. Other officers worked with PayPal and Ask Jeeves. LinkedIn has accumulated multiple investors including Sequoia Capital, all worth $53 million. Not only did these entrepreneurs who head up LinkedIn fix a networking and professional problem but they also helped other entrepreneurs like themselves, completing the circle.

I am a member of linkedin but I haven’t really done much with it yet. From my limited experience it is a much more professional, work oriented version of facebook that allows users to connect with people in industry. These connections are more business then a friend you met at a party last night, and I think that adds to the professional element of the site. I’m sure in the coming years I will begin to use it more.

I have a linkedin account and have just started to expand my contacts, it is a bit harder to build the contact base because you need to know their e-mail and they have to accept your invite.

Good idea. Networking is always smart. Im surprised I have not heard much about this. Although it may be beneficial for Entrepreneurship I wonder why there hasn’t been that much popularity with it. I mean obviously even the people who have accounts dont really look at them. I wonder how the company could promote more of its users to become more involved.

LinkedIn is certainly the best and most professional social networking sites on the internet. I have an account in it, and I have used it somewhat. The only thing is that it still isn’t popular as Facebook.

Interesting and something to look into, but I am not sure if it will ever be as popular as Facebook or Myspace.

It’s a great idea, I found myself losing interest no matter how many features Facebook adds, because it’s got nothing to do with anything in my real life.
This site will definitely be a good tool for business owners as well as people who are looking for jobs and opportunities. -

I don’t have a linkedin account yet, but I’m glad I read this blog because I’ve been wondering what it is, since it’s always listed with sites like Facebook and Twitter. Now that I know it is more of a business networking site, I can keep it in mind for the future.

This is the first I’ve heard of Linkedln. This is a suprise to me since it started in 2003. I think Linkedln is a cool idea since it is more of a business networking site. Despite this, I think its competition, Facebook and Twitter, have it beat. Although it may be more professional or exclusive, business like Facebook and Twitter because there are more users.

It seems like a good idea, but I wonder how well it can compete.

I know many of my older friends have accounts with this company and even though I have not yet joined, I am sure I will someday when Facebook has died down and its not as popular, or upon the time of graduation.

It’s a really good resource, because the most difficult part for most new entrepreneurs is not only generating an idea, but also finding a chance. For instance, after the idea generation what people need to do is to gather the relevant informations that are good for their topic, so in order to do that many people need to ask different companies for opinions. Linkedln is actually a really good source for this process. In addition, some people might decide to work after they are graduate from the college, so Linkedln is also good for searching the internships

I feel like networking is something you always hear about while you are in college but will not really understand how critical it is until you graduate and are stuck without a job. Most people get their jobs through people they know.

Networking is always useful for entrepreneurs or other individuals. Though it may not be as popular as Facebook or Myspace, but the advantage is that it focuses on company and business.

I am on linkedin and plan on using it as a networking tool in the future. I prefer it to facebook.com because you don’t have to worry about being tagged in dumb pictures or being misrepresented.
