Entrepreneurs should play fair too!
Posted on December 6th, 2009 48 commentsElizabeth Lambert of New Mexico: Suspended for Foul Play
It’s always been said that soccer is a rough sport. However a few weeks ago University of New Mexico soccer player Elizabeth Lambert took it to another level. During a game versus Brighman Young University (BYU), Lambert was caught making many dirty plays against the BYU players. (See the Video). She has now been suspended from the team, and cannot participate in practices, games or conditioning. The Mountain West Conference completely stands behind New Mexico’s coach to suspend Lambert, and do not agree with overly aggressive behavior. Lambert made a public apology saying she was “deeply and wholeheartedly regretful”.
After viewing the video, we can honestly not believe how violent she played. Katelyne is a soccer player and has claimed to never have made any plays like those. It made us as a group feels good that she was punished and made a public apology. With all the scandals and stories involved in all aspects of college sports it made us happy to see that bad sportsmanship hasn’t made the cut of things that coaches turn their backs on.
The video below was embedded at the team’s request. Hank

Karlis Jansons December 6th, 2009 at 11:24
Yea, this play wall all over the news on sports sites for several days. Florida’s linebackers gauging of an opponents eyes also made big news.
-
wow… did that really just happen?

Kyle Chen December 6th, 2009 at 13:14
Yea, I saw that news a while back, she said that it was blow out of proportion because she was a female athlete, she said if it was guys that did it, it would’ve been okay

-
Marisa Strupp December 6th, 2009 at 15:56

i just can’t believe this happened. it is not fair on her part to play in such a horrible manner.

Shawn Tomlinson December 6th, 2009 at 16:31
I saw this the day after it happened on Sportscenter and i don’t see how she wasn’t thrown out of the game early on. There is a difference between playing physical and hard and playing dirty. She should be out for a few games.

WOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!! Is this supposed to be a helpful hint to entrepreneurs to not get into fights? lol
-
Greg Forney December 6th, 2009 at 19:45
Wow hahaha thats really funny.
-
Unbelievable…but amazing watch.
Though I don’t think this is valid for entrepreneurs, it is certainly not important for successful business to be successful only if others in the same league are not. -
Nathan Ferguson December 6th, 2009 at 19:56
Hahahah that i sinsane. I cant believe how crazy she was
-
Ashley Grice December 6th, 2009 at 20:38
Wow I don’t know what is crazier the fact that this girl is actually doing these
things, the easy that she does them or the fact that she is only getting yellow cards! -
Erica Lied December 6th, 2009 at 20:43
this is crazy. ahh. that girl is too intense. I cant believe that girls sports has come to this!!!
-
Josh Johnson December 6th, 2009 at 20:49
That girl was nuts! I know I wouldn’t want to see her lined up against me on the field.
-
Jenna York December 6th, 2009 at 20:51
That girl was so vicious! I do not understand how she thinks her actions are appropriate. WAY to intense!
-
Katelyne Moody December 6th, 2009 at 21:45
WOW! It still gets me everytime. That was crazy. She’s nuts!

This girl is out of control…the coaches need to be applauded for dismissing her. I hope I don’t run into entrepreneurs with principles like hers!
-
Wow, that’s pretty ridiculous. I’m glad she got suspended.
-
Jennifer Cook December 7th, 2009 at 12:45
I played soccer for 14 years. I hate to say it but i’ve seen worse…
-
Andrew Rodriguez December 7th, 2009 at 13:22
I would have to agree with Jennifer. This girl just got unlucky because she did it at a game that was being broadcast but soccer if a very rough sport and many many many player, frankly, its especially the girls, who play very dirty!
-
David Uhlenhake December 7th, 2009 at 15:19
I saw this on Sports Center the days after it happened. The really crazy thing is that most of these violent acts were not sceen by the refs.
-
Zhiheng Liu December 7th, 2009 at 20:23
Wow… Girls gone wild…
Business competition may not seem as violent as how these girls displayed, but it can be much cruer. -
eugene December 7th, 2009 at 22:00
I think it’s really important that entrepreneurs play fair…honestly, society is fed up with thug capitalism and one of these days there will be a backlash.

Amber Illig December 8th, 2009 at 09:05
Oh my gosh.
-
Amber Illig December 8th, 2009 at 09:05
I think #15 needs to attend anger management classes. That is ridiculous!
-
Amber Illig December 8th, 2009 at 09:17
After this, I don’t even know if I would take her public apology seriously.
-
Michael Mullen December 8th, 2009 at 14:42
You would thing eventually someone would say something?
-
Kevin Buczek December 8th, 2009 at 17:14
I hate seeing stuff like this and being a former hockey player I’d have to say there is a lot more people out there like this. Stuff like that would happen basically every play, its good to see someone getting caught and punished for it.
-
Theresa Reinhart December 8th, 2009 at 20:50
Wow. Watching this made me sick. Being a past competitor myself, it really is beyond disappointing that a player would act like this on multiple accounts. She is a filthy lier if she said that even though these events happened numerous amounts of times in less than ONE game that she has NEVER done this in the past. Someone should kick her in the head and pull her hair out!
-
Bin Lin December 8th, 2009 at 21:05
That is messed up. Every game should follow by the rules, otherwise their would not be any success.
-
Heath Hiatt December 8th, 2009 at 21:14
This video is very brutal. It’s interesting how much more attention something like this will get when it involves women rather than men. If this were a men’s hockey came nobody would give it a second look.
-
Sungjae December 8th, 2009 at 21:34
She doesn’t know how to play soccer. But she has potential talent in rugby.
-
Marisa Nakajima December 8th, 2009 at 23:04
Wow, I played soccer, but this is definitely crossing the line of aggressive behavior.
-
Cara Cymbala December 8th, 2009 at 23:11
I don’t know what the big deal is. The video was entertaining for sure, but why is everyone so shocked that girls get physically violent? We are competitive too. I know if someone elbowed me in the chest I would punch them too. From what I understand, some of the rough housing didn’t result in penalties and I think it most definitely should have… if they have penalties in soccer.
-
Cara Cymbala December 8th, 2009 at 23:13
not to promote violence or anything.. but that’s one of the reasons why I like hockey! They don’t break up the fight until one of them hits the ground. I’m sorry, but it’s entertaining!
-
Leah Keough December 9th, 2009 at 01:19
WOW!! That is CRAZY! I can see that being aggressive is an important characteristic in sports, but most of this is pretty unnecessary!
-
That’s why they have rules in different sports. People shouldn’t allow such things to happen.
-
Rohan Thakkar December 9th, 2009 at 21:05
Wow this girl is crazy
-
Alex Conkright December 9th, 2009 at 23:54
I don’t agree with how she acted but it was made worse by the excessive replaying of it on ESPN. This player would have been able to go on to play the rest of the season but because of the public outcry that came from all of the replays on ESPN she was kicked off the team. If sports shows hadn’t made a big deal she would still be on the team and is that right? Personally i found it exceptionally entertaining.
-
it’s pretty much ESPNs job to make ridiculous sports things noted, I think it’s about time where we just make a sport based around violence, bring back the gladiator games!
-
Steve Shih December 10th, 2009 at 21:56
Wow!!! I’ve never seen a soccer player do that before to an opponent. That’s unbelieveable and it is college soccer too.
