    From Fast Company

Bill Gates recently spoke at TED about how the world needs to attack reduction in CO2. As the tagline from TED suggests, his ideas are worth spreading. His 27+ minute presentation is embedded below. For my ENTR200 students, you might note he slipped in several “you knows.” Even the richest “guy” on planet earth is not perfect :-) Hank

I feel like when you say things like “you know” when presenting, it makes the audience feel more involved, its more personal. when you want peoples attention, you want them to think your talking directly to them. not just presenting. I understand why we should use more business presenting techniques, but its more comfortable for the presenter, and the audience sometimes to not. If bill gates does it when he presents, it cant be that ineffective, right?

    2. It’s scary how quickly the amount of CO2 is growing. It will take a long time before politicians and corporations feel the need to take drastic measures to change carbon emissions. Our population is growing so quickly, as is our dependence on energy… it seems like an impossible task to make a change in how much CO2 we create.

    3. Bill Gates is a good speaker as his speeches are very personal in tone. I liked how one time at TED he opened a jar of mosquitos to the audience saying “Why should poor people have all the fun?”. This was inspiring as well.

    4. I think Bill Gates is an inspirational speaker and his speeches make an impact on other people. He motivates people with his speeches and he really knows what he is talking about.

I was very impressed and inspired by Bill Gates’ speech. He is one of the richest people in the world but still donates his time to help. I like how he his presentation was very easy to understand and grasp. I enjoyed listening to what he had to say and could see that we have a problem that will take everyone’s effort to fix.

It’s amazing that I complain about how slow my internet is sometimes while other kids dont have lights in their house and are reading books under the street lights.
I am all for ideas and programs that will help people. Bill Gates is a very helpful person and I hope his ideas will help many others and change the world for the better.

    7. I love listening to this man speak. He just automatically brings in the audiences, and even when he is talking about science, in which i find boring, I am still very intrigued

    8. The goal of presentation is to communicate and share your ideas with audience. To different situation, I think it is fine to use professional or causual tones to speak.
However, I think the errors like ” you knows” should be avoided especially for students who are in the process of cultiviting good habbits.

    9. Bill’s a good guy, it’s no wonder his passion and drive has led him to such great success

    10. This is pretty cool. Bill is a man who could probably accomplish virtually anything he sets his mind to. I visit his website quite often.

    11. Geez i am so sick of hearing about how CO2 causes “climate change” CO2 is NOT a pollutant. we EXHALE CO2 so how is in the heck can we all be polluting? should we just stop breathing? the richest guy on the planet is sorely mistaken in his presentation

    12. Bill Gates did a great job presenting even with the umms. I noticed probably more because they were pointed out beforehand, however, they had no effect in hindering his speech or point he was making. I had heard about this TED convention/website before and couldn’t remember what it was called so thanks! They really do discuss some pretty interesting topics.

    13. Bill Gates has amazing presentations even with his ummm flaw. I’m just glad that there are people out there that dedicated to what they do.

    14. TED is where most aspiring Entrepreneurs can only dream of being. I watched Pranov Mistry’s Sixth Sense Technology presentation there and its pretty profound.

I have been really impressed with TED in general. I think that the conference brought a lot of good ideas to the table. I have been an avid TED follower for a while now. I think Gates ideas are good, and a lot of people are willing to listen to him. To really help the green movement present at TED move faster, the public needs to see some successful implementation and endorsement by some famous people. I liked watching Gates’ video.

Bill Gates has always been one of those people who surprises you not only in his effort, but his ideas. This backs my case up and shows his bright side once again through the many ideas he brings to the table.

My respect for Bill Gates just increased much more. This is something we all need to understand. He sends out a very good message.

    18. Bill really has a way with ideas. The way he communicates it, focusing on the fill-pauses may not be ideal but is still an effective way, probably unconcious way, to let his audeience know that he isn’t turning over the floor. It may not be proper, but it let’s me know he is still thinking and has more for me to pay attention to.

I think its great how Bill is doing “more” with what he has earned, not just sitting back and being content with what he has, it seems like he really wants to make a difference in our world
