Google is at it again: SearchStories
Posted on April 12th, 2010 41 commentsThe guys at Google like to have fun at times. Thus, SearchStories for the masses to generate short clips based on “searches.” Could be used to make short adverts. BTW, can be addicting. My first is below. Hank

Just goes to show you how much, not just technology, but Google is integrated in our daily lives. Go Google! They should make one for gmail, gchat, google docs, and google calendar all in one. that will not just tell a story, but my whole life. haha.

That’s neat. Is that just created after you search multiple times in a row or from your search history?

Alexandra Graves April 12th, 2010 at 11:21
This is cool. I don’t know how much of this I would use but it’s a cool idea.

Andrew Huff April 12th, 2010 at 11:26
I agree this is an interesting idea but I don’t see much use for it. What would be interesting would be to start a random web page and try to get to another specific website just through links (aka just clicking… no searching). I remember doing something like that in high school. It’s pretty amazing how interconnected the internet is.

Cool video. I agree with everyone else who has posted. Very cool and interesting idea, but I really don’t know how much I would benefit from it.

Great video, awesome background music. Not to mention the Hank links, Very cool! A few years ago I read about how Google keeps our search records for as long as 18 years. That got me thinking. Of course, there is little we can do about Google’s policies, but it does make us wonder how far can our privacy be raided?

Another way Google integrates itself into our daily lives, whether most of us will use it or not.

Really cool thing Google has come up with yet again. Even though I agree that im not sure if I have any practical use for it, it is very neat.

Cool video. The Hank Feeser search is pretty cool. I am not really sure what I would use this for either, but it is interesting!

Kelly Plantz April 12th, 2010 at 13:19
I’m surprised google hasn’t had a contest yet to see who can come up with the “short story”. It would be fun to see what people search and how they put it together.

That looks like a fun application. I can see how it would help make video projects more interesting and dramatic, and how it could be something fun to mess around with on your own time. I’m not exactly sure how Google profits off of it, but it’s good to know they’re trying to offer a little more enjoyment to their customers.

SOooo cool!!

Patrick Ostrosky April 12th, 2010 at 14:06
Is this based off of the popularity of the Google Super Bowl ad? I think its a fun idea that many people, myself included, will play around with to see what kind of things can be done. Another way for Google to diversify itself from the competition. You can’t do this with Bing or Yahoo!

Wow that is pretty cool. The Winter Games SearchStory is crazy. It is amazing how Google keeps coming up with these ideas…

Seems like another cool idea from Google, but not sure how it can earn them more money. Just seems like another bonus for using Google.

HAHA. this really reminds me of the little mouse guy game where you try to keep the mouse away from the stick figures or else they take it and use it to break out of their flash animation. its pretty darn cool. this is ok.

This seems like a cool idea but I dont really know what the point of it really is and how it works. Im sure google will make another billion on this idea though.

Harsh Sanghvi April 12th, 2010 at 19:31
It looks cool. But I don’t really get the purpose of it except creating small ads. Still seems fun. Search On…

@Andrew Huff
I remember a game like that we called it Wikipedia races, basically you start on one random wikipedia page and someone picks a new page and just through the links in the wiki pages you have to try to get to the other one as fast as possible. It was a great time killer haha. This sort of thing is what i like most about google. It seems like they publish every idea they have for the mainstream public. Some are not as useful as others but at least they give you a bunch of options to work with. Most people may not have use for this but at least one person uses this its a success for google.

This idea has a lot of potential Google will be very successful with this.

Michael Eargle April 12th, 2010 at 20:15
I think its another great idea from google. it looks like another building block for them..
-
Cortez Smith April 12th, 2010 at 20:25
Google is just finding ways to encourage anybody, but the idea sound like its heading to the top.
-
Kyla Garrett April 12th, 2010 at 20:39
Leave it to Google to make the new feature film… It is pretty impressive though. I can only imagine what other company’s may take a look at this and get some idea for a marketing commercial or something related. Give it time, it’ll happen

Google is definitely trying to keep up with many other fast growing companies out there like Apple. They are doing a great job and surely have plenty of opportunities for future entrepreneurs!
-
Ravi Mody April 12th, 2010 at 21:03
Haha that’s a really cool idea. I’m sure I’m going to end up making one and showing my friends who will think I’m very technologically advanced.
-
Justin Riley April 12th, 2010 at 21:05
This is pretty cool! Leave it too Google to think about something creative, fun, and cool like this! I may have to try it out sometime and see if how fun it is!
-
Molly Longest April 12th, 2010 at 23:12
This looks like fun! I was really surprised to see Hank’s name up there. I think it would be a fun thing to send to someone. I don’t know how often I’d use it though.

Abhinandan De April 13th, 2010 at 01:50
Interesting! Umm well lets see…..opportunities: fun and time pass, but what next? could be an interesting way to connect with people, i just made one for my friends. pretty cool huh !! some advanced skills in google searching would help no doubt.

Jack Kennedy April 13th, 2010 at 08:00
Wasn’t this sort of used in a super bowl ad? This is really cool, youtube ftw!
-
Ben Albers April 13th, 2010 at 08:50
Haha this seems like fun. I love the epic music that you chose too. I wonder what if this will be mainly used for entertainment because I do not really see any other use for it.
-
Justin de la Chi(cago) April 13th, 2010 at 09:57
Is this a ploy to target text within video? I wonder if Google offers this to better understand the dynamics of extracting searches from video. It gives people a bit of a game to play, while realizing the focus within video instead of tags, and titles. Maybe I’m just a conspiracy theorist.

jus another way google can make money. i think they should just stick to what they originally started with
-
Stephanie Mellady April 13th, 2010 at 12:19
This looks like fun! I am going to stay away from it right now because I need to actually be productive. But it is just like the Google superbowl ad with the guy going to France and falling in love.
-
Thomas Gick April 13th, 2010 at 12:31
Great idea, its amazing how far programmers can take a simple idea and evolve it
-
Matt Kompara April 13th, 2010 at 14:29
Seems like an easy way for people to make something individual about themselves while google scores some free advertising at the same time.
-
Frank Hettlinger April 13th, 2010 at 19:27
Well at least the people at Google are always trying to think of something new. This may not be useful now, but it may lead to an idea from them or someone else in the future.
-
Curtis Brackett April 14th, 2010 at 19:46
Pretty neat idea, though i’m not sure it has any real use. None the less its impressive to see what people can come up with in their spare time.
-
Courtney M. Cronk April 14th, 2010 at 20:23
haha thats kind of cool. Idk what it helps with but still cool. Don’t think i would do it too often though.
-
Blake Bronowicki April 15th, 2010 at 09:32
I think the idea of the google search engine showing results involving youtube videos is a great way to supplement all the results. I have been using Google since I can remember and I have really seen its growth and the idea of linking videos to search results is a great thing that will definitely benefit many people.
