AuthorStream example
Posted on April 18th, 2010 34 commentsProviders are scrambling to meet the requirements to best display their wares on the iPad. AuthorStream was mentioned in TechCrunch as one such company that is ahead of the curve. To test it out, I uploaded the PowerPoint presentation embedded below [thanks to my BIL Jerry for the content]. Couple of items. Go full screen to really get the impact of the presentation. You have to click/advance the slides yourself. I didn’t see a “stop” button anywhere? BUT, it is one of the few presentation sharing sites to faithfully include audio from the original PPT/PPS. Note: The audio placed on our PC, NOT the iPad? Strange indeed. Hank

If the audio works on the iPad, then this program is worth it. If not, you might as well just upload your presentation to Keynote on the iPad to get a more seamless presentation.

This program looks like it could be sucessful but it has to have audio in order for it to be at the top of the line.

I don’t know much about apple products, since I have never used one of their products. But from what I can see this seems to be a pretty good, and apparently having audio makes it better than the rest so I wager this product will do great.

It is strange to clip the button by myself. I like this song but it is too short and not continuous. I hope this program can improve better.

Seems pretty interesting, I’ve seen a few adaptation of this over the years, this doesn’t seem to have anything significantly better than those but its getting there.
On the other hand I really liked some of those pictures, I can’t wait till I can travel the world and see some of those places.

I have been to a few of those places, LA, Stockholm, Croatia, the Bazaar in Turkey, Paris…great places for photo ops! But that presentation seemed sort of primitive?
Maybe I am not understanding the point of it.

There isn’y mic i could say about this product because I still fail to realize whats the whole purpose of it, but by looking at it seems to be amazing to people who are tourists.

This product is and will be very successful. With a little more Technical changes it will be better than its competitors.

I’ve never used authorStream before but it sounds like a great way to share power points. The example presentation here is really neat. Some of those pictures are incredible.

I’m not familar with this software on or off the iPad. I am not a fan of clicking manually, there should be a slide show option. Other than that this is pretty cool, I would like to have a way to share presentations easily.

Awesome. The places seem so different when seen from the air. Authorstream looks good but there is still a huge scope for improvement.

I like how the photos take up the whole screen, but can’t I also agree that there still needs to be some improvement.

I notice that the presentation was sluggish and chunky. They should make their software more streamlined. After all it has to work on an Apple device. Hank, can you upload the keynote presentation from the ipad like this? [Hank - not that I am aware of.]

The idea is very interesting and I think the audio is a key element especially in slide show presentations. As the product adapts and improves it will be useful in the future.

the suburbs of Copenhagen are really cool looking

I think it is pretty cool that this technology is available, but I found some of those pictures much more intriguing!

The presentation of the amazing pictures around the world was great. It is amazing to see how different people live around the world.
Referring to the this new company AuthorStream, it seems like they are moving in the right direction but to stay ahead will need to fine tune their products. -

It’s interesting to look at the early stages of the iPads life. All the applications that are being released are first generation which means that there will be large amounts of change in the coming years.

The content of the presentation seemed cooler than the actual technology, but it seems ok

Having audio seems to set this program apart from the rest. Hopefully, with a few small updates such as a slideshow mode, this program will do well.

Aditya Chaudhari April 19th, 2010 at 19:25
Personally I have to have audio and believe without it there is no way for success.

Kamran Malhance April 19th, 2010 at 20:47
I definitely like the program and I feel that it could be very successful but the audio is always a big plus.

those pics are amazing….but the audio was too short…that could improve a bit.

Zach Morgan April 20th, 2010 at 07:12
I think that it is a neat presentation presenter. It is also great to have the added audio feature to make a more effective presentation. However, I think that it does need some unique features that set it apart more from its competitors.

Jacob Higbee April 20th, 2010 at 09:18
The audio is a great feature, but it could still use something to make it stand out from others.

Thomas Gick April 20th, 2010 at 14:18
Amzing pictures, the program really does the photography justice
-

Great photographs; it is interesting to see different areas around the world from a different view. That being said AuthorStream seems to have the right idea about what consumers want but it looks like they still have a little more tweaking and fine tuning to do before it is at an acceptable level.

I really felt the audio could be improved to a better extent and the photographs are phenomenal. The little things are what Apple needs to fix up and when those little glitchs and so get fixed up will make the iPad functioning to its best level. Thank god for the iPad!

It could be, but I do not like Ipad at all. If you want to use Ipad to do a presentation, it will not works very well, because the Ipad is too small

nice pictures! I was confused about what you meant about the audio though….either way, i liked presentation.

I agree with what most people have said, if the audio works then this might have some potential, it definitely needs some work, but it has potential.

Joseph Mecca April 25th, 2010 at 23:41
With the exception of not having audio, I really liked this presentation

I have done a lot of the Prezi work for our group presentations and I have to say I do like it. I never used Prezi before this class and after about 10 minutes of messing around with it I had it down. I am still more knowledgeable with Powerpoint, but I am definitely more willing to use Prezi for a visual aid.
