Dave: You are it
Posted on January 16th, 2012 15 commentsStaples has a current ad running that says it all; when you are a startup/small business, often you are it. Think about it. And thanks to Beth Carroll (author of Wednesday blogs) for the idea/link. Hank

This commercial really does make it seem real for a new small business owner. I tried to start multiple website based companies and found it extremely difficult to complete everything i needed to do.

I really liked this commercial. I thought it was funny and got it’s point across effectivley. It also makes you realize how much work really does go into a business. Expecially if it is a start-up business and your working by yourself.

I think while this commercial does show that starting your own small business is a hefty task, it also demonstrates the exciting part of entrepreneurship. One of the main reasons people start their own businesses is to be their own boss and be in control of everything and this commercial shows exactly that.

I think this commercial is really funny actually, but besides that I think it really shows the aspects of how running your own business can be. Also how difficult it can be at times when there is so much to do and you are the one doing everything.

I think this commercial is very witty and clever. This commercial pokes fun at how difficult opening your own business is and how many different hats you must wear. I think it’s exciting and truthful at the same time.

I thought this commercial was very clever and really got the point across how time consuming and demanding it is to be a small business owner. A few relatives of mine a small business owners so I know how much they have to do on there own for the business.

In terms of advertisement, Staples really outdid themselves with this one. They managed to create an ad that’s unique, clever, visually appealing, and effective all at once. In fact, I feel like going to Staples right now. The ad really exemplifies and raises up the average small-business-man, almost making him a hero of sorts. The person who can and must do it all. Plus, the subtle insertions of Staples logos throughout the commercial really help to drive home the fact that Staples is his oft- forgotten sidekick, without which he would be hopelessly lost. Great advertising. Great comercial.

I think that this commercial is a perfect example of something people forget to think about when starting their own business.

This is a great representation of the realities of owning a small business. My dad recently sold his Veterinary practice after about 25 years, and the new owners (first time business owners) approached him to ask who he used to do the landscaping/outside maintenance and who they could call to service the furnace…he told them that he had fulfilled those duties himself, and they were a little flabbergasted.

This commercial is very creative and innovative, it gives comic relief to something that can be a scary process in starting your own business. If people have a fun, creative way to approach entrepreneurship and enjoy what they are doing, the sky is the limit.

A Very clever commercial and puts the life of an entrepreneur in perspective! I guess at the end of the day, even thought its a lot of work to get others to believe in the same idea that you started out with, if your passionate about it, all the hard work that goes into starting a business isn’t really what your worried about

This commercial really caught my eye the first time I saw it on TV. I feel that it is very creative and even adds a bit of humor, while hits the nail on the head when it comes to running your own/small business. The commercial shows how much work being a sole owner of a company is and that there are many variables and responsibilities that go into it. Everything needs to be consistent with the goal of the business and have that driving passion to make it succeed.

I think this is a great commercial. 1, its funny, and 2, it really gives the viewer an idea of how busy a small business owner/entrepreneur can be. Dave is forced to do everything himself and staples says they can make it easier.

I think that this is a very clever commercial and it clearly shows how it is when a person starts a business from scratch! It also shows that one person is responsible for every single thing related to the firm! The person is the boss and the one who changes paper in the copy machine too!
